It should be a dove, of course, a dove of remembrance perched here on the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Pioneer Square. But there were no doves in the vicinity, and I felt there was a lovely symmetry between the bird and the monument on which he stood. So, the seagull of remembrance it is, and in Seattle, city by the sea, that seems entirely appropriate.
