Ivar Haglund, showman, restauranteur, folk singer, and Seattle legend, opened his first restaurant, Ivar's Acres of Clams, on this very spot in July, 1946. The statue shows him feeding french fries to the gulls, something he apparently loved to do. Judging by the size of these gulls, they've been eating very well.
